This room is devoted for a special exhibition of textiles. Every year exhibitions with changing themes show the great diversity of materials, fashions and accessories, which were customary even one hundred or one hundred and fifty years ago, contrary to popular opinion. The exhibits, mostly from our own stock in the open air museum, allow a glimpse of how people dressed for a special occasion even then. Although certain common characteristics can be recognised for certain times, these are defined by the fashion of the times and have nothing to do with traditional costumes, as was customary in areas of Bavaria, the Black Forest and Marburg. Costumes in the sense of a generally mandatory clothing style have never existed in our region.
