The sponsors' association

As opposed to many other open air museums, the Roscheider Hof museum in Konz is not a public or community institution. The sponsoring organisation for the museum since its foundation has been the registered, not-for-profit association founded in 1973, "Volkskunde- und Freilichtmuseum Roscheider Hof, Konz e.V." ( Roscheider Hof Folklore and Open Air Museum) with over 900 members in 2001. The museum is financed by membership fees, entrance charges, subsidies and donations. Founder and chairman of the supporting association was Prof. Rolf Robischon (above photo).

Museum management and museum staff

The museum currently employs the equivalent of 3.75 full-time staff. In addition there are 1-2 staff doing civilian service (alternative national service), 5 to 8 as part of a state job creation scheme, various temporary workers and the men and women who act as guides for the museum, speaking 5 languages between them at the present time.

It is the museum's responsibility among others to :
  • acquire promotional funds without which the museum could not survive,
  • plan and carry out expansion of the museum,
  • acquire, investigate scientifically and draw up inventories of museum property,
  • maintain the infrastructure of the museum from the paths to the signposts and to develop it further,
  • create printed museum guides, leaflets and other publications regarding the museum and keep them updated.
  • prepare guided tours of the museum,
  • look after groups of visitors by employing, training and supervising museum guides,
  • represent the museum in national and international organisations,
  • organise special exhibitions and events,
  • work together with regional and national tour operators and tourist organisations,
  • make press announcements, particularly notification of museum events in the print and electronic media
  • represent the museum in museum associations and other national and international organisations,
  • formulate ideas of how to attract more visitors to our museum in future
  • .. and last but not least to manage all the paperwork such as bookkeeping, archival of correspondence, applying for and settling invoices for projects, etc.

Voluntary staff

The museum would not have even come into being and could not exist today were it not for the great commitment of many voluntary initiators and helpers. The museum has been managed by voluntary staff since being founded. It is of particular importance for the museum to be able to rely on the technical expertise and craftsman's skills of our members if needed. For instance structural engineers provide us with advice on the erection and maintenance of our houses, and other appropriate professions and in holding our exhibitions. Some areas of the museum are looked after by voluntary helpers in agreement with the museum management. Current examples of this are "The green path", the herb garden and also the Web site you're looking at now.
